About Department:

Tumkur District has one Government College which was inadequate to serve the higher educational needs of the public in 1960’s. In 1966, our college was started. In 1970, Department of Commerce was commenced by great visionary Dr. T. Thippeswamy, then principal.

The Department of Commerce had played a key role in serving the cause of business education ever since its establishment. It takes pride on successful completion of 48 years with expansion. It has provided multi-dimensional service. The proudest thing is the countless students of this department specially the achievers and ascendants are well placed in society as Professors, Charted Accountants, Bank Managers, Officers, Administrators, Teachers and Entrepreneurs.

In the academic year 2005-06, the department started offering BBM course with Department head K.C.Jayaswamy.

The Department started the Post Graduation Course (M.Com) in June 2010.

Course Outcomes [CO's]

  • To familiarizes the students with basic concepts of Accounts, Application & skills in different areas.
  • To enable the students to understand and apply mathematical and statistical techniques to practical business problems.
  • To enable the students to familiarize with existing corporate legislation.
  • To enable the students to acquaint with the dynamics of business scenario in India.
  • To familiarize the students with various concepts of cost, elements of cost & create cost consciousness among the students.
  • To enable the students to develop awareness about Corporate Accounting in conformity with the provisions of Companies Act.
  • To familiarize the students with concepts and principles of Management.
  • To enable the students to understand the application of computers in Business environment with an emphasis on Accounting.
  • To enable the students to acquaint about the functioning of Indian Financial System with reference to its structure, organization, instruments and regulating authorities

  • To expose the students to the various provision of Income Tax Act relating to computation of Income of individual assesses.

  • The objective of this subject is to facilitate the students in understanding of international business in a multi-cultural world.

  • After completing three years of Bachelors in Commerce and Management program, students would gain thorough grounding in the fundamentals of commerce and finance.
  • The Commerce and Management focused curriculum offers a number of specialisation and practical exposures which would equip the students to face the modern day-to-day challenges.
  • The all-inclusive outlook of the course offers a number of value based and job oriented courses ensures the students are trained up to date Students will be able to demonstrate progressive learning of various tax issues and tax forms related to individuals.
  • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge in setting up of a computerised set of accounting books.
  • Students will demonstrate progressive, effective domain development of values, the role of accounting in society and business.
  • Students will learn relevant financial accounting career skills applying both quantitative and qualitative knowledge to their future careers in business.
