Sri Siddaganga mutt has a long history of more than 500 years. The Mutt was established by Shri Gosala Siddeshwara Swamiji in 15th century AD. Sri Siddaganga Mutt is a unique Gurukula providing education to more than 10,000 poor children with free food and shelter without any discrimination of caste or Creed. Sree Mutt is renowned in India as a place of knowledge and wisdom. It is a unique religious centre. It is secular in its principles. It is based on Basava philosophy.SreeSreeSreeShivakumaraSwamigalu, , was a Hindu religious figure and humanitarian. He was the founder president of  SreeSiddaganga Education Society.

Sree Siddaganga Education Society was established on 17th July 1963 and was registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act of No 10-of 1963-64.The driving force behind the Education society is His Holiness Karnataka Rathna,Padma Bhushana Dr.Sree Sree Sree ShivakumaraSwamiji, the Pontiff of Siddaganga Mutt. He responded to the divine call graciously at the age of 111. He was an eminentScholar  in Sanskrit, Kannada and English. He was a staunch follower of “Basavanna.

He had a strong conviction in practicing “ Work is Worship”. His Holiness Sree Sree Siddalinga Swamiji has become the president of the Siddaganga Education Society after the demise of His Holiness Dr.Sree Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji. He is also an eminent scholar. He believes in the upliftment of the poor. It is evident in the way he gives importance to the Education of
the poor. Sree Siddaganga College of Arts Science and Commerce, Tumakuru, incorporated under the Siddaganga Education Society is affiliated to Tumkur University. It was established in the year 1966.Ever since its inception, the College has been in the
forefront of higher education in the State.

The College submitted itself to the First Accreditation in the year 2004 and was awarded with B+ Grade (77.75) and for the 2nd cycle it was reaccredited with B Grade with CGPA of 2.87 in the year 2011. It was again re-accredited for the 3rd Cycle in the year 2018 and obtained B++ with 2.82 CGPA.

This Institution has an enrolment of 1424 students, 59 faculty  of which 10 are honoured with Ph.D and 31 non-teaching staff. Dr.H.P.Veerabhadraswamy  is the Principal of the Institution.
